Nearly 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, producing powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.
Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Damage
Residents reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in particular locations. Weather authorities verified that different parts across the state had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to address the extensive power failures.

Meanwhile, approximately one thousand households in Victoria also encountered energy failures after Melbourne experienced its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.
State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.
Tuesday was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both states.
Safety Concern
Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
This warning comes after past events where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
